Youth and Museums Seminar. Recommendations to promote the approach between museums and young people

Youth and Museums. Guidelines
24 de noviembre de 2020 Agencia Nacional Española Programa Erasmus+: Juventud en Acción

The Youth and Museums Seminar #MuseoJoven took place from 21th September to 28th October 2020. Initially planned as a face-to-face activity, due to the pandemic caused by Covid-19, it had to be modified to be held online.

The seminar was aimed at museum professionals, workers in the field of youth and young people interested in culture with the aim of advancing the conclusions drawn from the previous editions of "Other Museum Generation: Youth at Museums" developed in 2018 and 2019, and to draw up recommendations to promote closer ties between museums and the young population.

It was developed in two parts. On the first part,  three sessions of "Open Debates" with open participation and, on the other, the seminar itself, with the participation of those previously selected, from Austria, Bulgaria, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Romania.

Both the training team (Gemma García, Daniel Gismera, Clara Giberga and Kae Newcomb) and the profile of the participants sought a balance between the areas concerned: museums, youth and education.

We also had the contribution of the experience of four professionals to whom we thank for their selfless collaboration: Mafalda Duarte Barrela (independent curator from Portugal), Heather Maxson (director of education at the Whitney Museum in New York), Leire San Martin (director of education at La Tabakalera in San Sebastián) and Jaime Schlesinger (photographer and educator at the International Center of Photography (ICP), in New York).

The result of this work is the "Guidelines" which, today, we are making available to all those interested.
